Family Portrait Photography Sevenoaks Kent
I love it this time of the year when the leaves are just beginning to turn, the sun shines and all nature is red and gold and yellow. Autumn is definitely my favourite season by far!
Most families don’t have a firm idea about about a location for their shoot, so it’s always a refreshing change when it has all been planned out for me!
We arrange to meet at Lullingstone Country Park just north of Sevenoaks on a gorgeous sunny Sunday morning where the light is simply stunning. Andrea chose this spot just a short drive from her family home as they have been coming here ever since their teenage children were tiny toddlers. It’s a place that is very special to them and therefore a perfect location for their family portrait photography session. The country park was part of a large medieval estate and a deer park and the oldest tree is 800 years old!
It’s a truly wonderful park for a Sunday morning wander, which is exactly what we do in order to find some suitable corners of the woods where the background and light both suit our needs. It’s also a useful time for getting to know the children, and to strike up a conversation which will help them feel less conscious when it is time to be in front of the camera. I always have a chat especially to teenagers before expecting them to ‘perform’ and this helps me create relaxed, natural portraits.
We were quite keen to shoot down by the river where the children used to climb a particular tree, but it’s dark and a bit chilly by the water, so on we go until we find a beautiful backdrop of yellow and green trees where the light is diffused – perfect! Next it’s off along the trail and up the hillside as we find another spot where the light is just spot on – so soft and flattering.
Here are a few of my favourite shots from the session – enjoy!
